There are three visitor centers at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The main one is the French Quarter Visitor Center in downtown New Orleans. There is also a visitor center at Chalmette Battlefield. The Barataria Preserve Visitor Center is currently closed due to damage from Hurricane Ida in 2021. The National Park Service plans to build a new facility and restore the hiking trails in the preserve. Work is expected to be completed in 2028, but as with anything involving the federal government, I’ll believe it when I see it. Check the National Park Service’s official Alerts and Conditions web page for the most recent updates.

For detailed information and plenty of photographs of the two operating visitor centers, see the following web pages here on National Park Planner:

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve also has three Cultural Centers at various locations within the Mississippi River Delta. They each cover the history of the Acadians who settled in different areas of Louisiana after they were exiled from Nova Scotia, Canada, in the mid-1700s.
