Barataria Preserve, part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Barataria Preserve at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is located in Marrero, Louisiana, just over 15 miles south of New Orleans. Due to damage sustained during Hurricane Ida in 2021, the Visitor Center, picnic area, and all but one of the trails in the Preserve are closed until further notice for repairs. The Twin Canals Trail is the only trail still open to the public. It has its own parking lot and is separate from the damaged section of the Preserve.
The National Park Service expects the work to be completed in 2028, but as with anything involving the federal government, I wouldn’t be surprised if it took longer. For the most recent updates, check the park’s official Alerts and Conditions web page.
