Historic Thibodaux Walking Tour at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve

There are numerous Ranger Programs available at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Each of the Visitor Centers and Cultural Centers features unique programs, many of them on a weekly basis. Be sure to check the National Park Service’s official Calendar web page for the current schedule of events.

The only visitor program outside of what the National Park Service offers is a riverboat cruise to the Chalmette Battlefield aboard the authentic paddlewheeler, the Creole Queen. The trip leaves from the Spanish Plaza in the French Quarter to the battlefield and back. While on the cruise, a local historian talks about the city and the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, which took place at Chalmette. Once at the battlefield, guests have about one hour to explore the grounds. A park Ranger gives a lecture about the Battle of New Orleans shortly after the boat arrives.
