NATIONAL PARK PLANNER PRIVACY AND DATA PROTECTION POLICY

National Park Planner (NPP) does not collect any personal information via registration forms. It does, however, use third-party plug-ins and statistics programs that use cookies to function. If you do not want cookies placed in your browser, visit your browser HELP MENU for instructions on how to disable cookies. However, without cookies you may see the same messages pop up on every NPP web page that you visit, which is very annoying.

The following is a list of programs and services used by NPP:

123 STAT

By default, 123 STAT collects your IP addresses and writes cookies to your web brower. The IP is needed for geo-location, and the cookies are needed for two reasons (1) recognize a repeat visitor (this is how the service knows that a given visitor has returned to the NPP site) and (2) build the click-path of a visitor inside the NPP web site and count the number of page views. Other information such as browser size and type and what operating system you are using are also collected.

Note that neither the IP nor the use of cookies identify a natural person. It is known that a visitor was on our site, what pages were viewed, and whether or not a visitor is on the site for the first time, but there is no way to know who the visitor is—there is no way of identifying him or her personally.

Also, 123 STAT does not share your data with anyone. It is yours and yours only.

Here is a list of the cookies that get written on your computer by 123 STAT, with their purpose and duration:

  • wtslv_xxxx: timestamp of last visit / used to recognize a repeat visitor / expiration: doesn’t expire
  • wtsid_xxxx: sessionID for this particular visit by this visitor / used so that all the page views are counted under a single ‘session ID’ / expiration: 30 minutes
  • wtsso_xxxs: timestamp of last page view / used to determine if a page view is part of the current visit / expiration: 30 minutes
  • For wix clients only – wix_xxxx: name of last page loaded / used to prevent counting double-clicks / expiration: 30 minutes

GOOGLE ANALYTICS

NPP uses the Google Analytics service to collect information about users of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. NPP uses this information only to analyse visitor statistics and does not store, control, or influence its collection, and thus cannot share it with anyone. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. NPP does not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser.

WORDFENCE

NPP uses the security plugin by Defiant called Wordfence. Wordfence collects information from visitors to NPP in order to function. NPP has signed Defiant’s Data Protection Policy. As a Data Controller, visitors to the NPP site are subject to this. See the Defiant Data Protection Policy for information on how Wordfence collects and uses data from visitors to NPP. The main section of interest is as follows:

“Defiant automatically collects Customer and end user [visitors to NPP] search queries and the date and time of the Customer and/or end user’s request and referral URL. Depending on the settings of a Customer and/or end user’s computer or mobile device (“Device”), Defiant also automatically collects: IP address; MAC address; Device make, model and operating system version; mobile network information; internet service provider; browser type and language; country and time zone in which the Device is located; and metadata stored on the Device. When permitted, Defiant also may collect data about a User’s geographic location through GPS, beacons and similar technology.”
