There are two large picnic areas located near the ferry dock at Peddocks Island in Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. One is next to the Chapel and the other is behind the Visitor Center, the first building you come to after getting off the ferry. All tables are taken on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved. If you want to host an event, picnic facilities are available for rent at Georges and Spectacle islands.
The Chapel picnic area is nicely shaded and has an unobstructed view of the harbor. There are five tables and two grills.
The picnic area behind the Visitor Center has eight tables and eight grills. This area is much more out in the open, though there is one shade tree that most of the tables are grouped around. As with the Chapel picnic area, this one has views of the harbor.
