Bumpkin Island is no longer serviced by ferry, so visitation is by private boat only. The island is within two miles of the mainland and easily accessible by those with canoes and kayaks. Private motorboats are also welcome but can only use the dock to unload passengers and gear. The boat must be anchored offshore. The captain must use a dinghy or wade / swim to get back to the island.

There’s not much to do on Bumpkin Island. I came only to explore, and within two hours I had walked every trail and seen the historic ruins. I was told by a park Ranger that nobody comes to Bumpkin unless they are camping, and camping on the island has been suspended. Peddocks Island is now the only island within the park that allows camping.
