Kayaking at Spectacle Island in Boston Harbor

Kayaking at Spectacle Island in Boston Harbor

There are paddling opportunities throughout Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, with most trips originating from the mainland. While it is possible for experienced paddlers to reach many of the islands, keep in mind that large ships, ferries, and private boats ply the waters. These boats cannot easily see or stop for canoeists and kayakers. Therefore, it is suggested that you stick to the bays at Quincy and Hingham and have the proper safety flags. There are plenty of islands to explore in these areas.
