The above high tide acreage of Hangman Island is only .45 acres. It is nearly flat—difficult to even see at high tide—and there is nothing on it other than rocks and a few trees. A gravel beach is located on the southwest corner, but supposedly there are a lot of rocks just under the water’s surface, making the island dangerous to approach by motorized boat. However, it is an inviting destination for a paddling trip, as it is just a little over a mile from Nut Island. Just keep in mind that it is a popular spot for birds, so the National Park Service discourages visits during nesting season from April through August.

Hangman Island is not serviced by the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area public ferry.
