The Acadian Cultural Center at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is located in Lafayette, Louisiana. At the time of this writing (September 2026), it is temporarily closed due to “air-conditioning” issues, and it’s been closed for this reason since June 2025. Now, if anyone else’s air conditioner broke, it would be fixed by the next day. This is just more federal government BS. Just come out and say, “We have no money to fix anything.” There is no word on when the repairs will be completed. For the most recent updates, check out the National Park Service’s official Alerts and Conditions web page for the park.
All I can say about the Acadian Cultural Center is that it has a nice picnic area. Four tables are scattered around a large field. One near the parking lot is wheelchair-accessible. The picnic area is open regardless of the building’s status.
