Accessible picnic tables under the shade shelter at the Pecos National Historical Park Visitor Center

There are three picnic areas at Pecos National Historical Park. All tables are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Restrooms are available at all of the picnic areas during normal operating hours (9 AM to 4:30 PM).

Three tables (no grills) are situated underneath a shade shelter in front of the Visitor Center. They are all newer and made of recycled plastic. They are also the only tables in the park that are wheelchair accessible.

A second, larger picnic area is located beside the parking lot next to the Spanish Mission Church and park administrative buildings. There are ten tables in all (no grills), four of which sit in a partially shaded area along the fence line to the west.

Four additional tables are individually situated under shade trees in front of the buildings.

There are two more tables underneath a shade shelter right next to the administrative buildings. Adjacent to them is an adobe horno (pronounced or’noh), an outdoor oven introduced to the Pueblo people by the Spanish in the 1500s (this is not a functioning oven for use by picnickers). At Pecos National Historical Park, the learning never stops, not even for lunch.

If you happen to be at the Trading Post when hunger hits, there are three tables (no grills) in the enclosed courtyard behind the building. Unfortunately, there is no shade available at any of the tables. Keep in mind that they may be occupied if a Ranger lecture or tour is taking place.

There is also one picnic table and a fancy outhouse at the Glorieta Pass Battlefield unit of the park.
