Indian History Site just up ahead on the Natchez Trace Parkway

The following is a list of stops along the Natchez Trace Parkway that deal with the history of American Indians. As it wove its way through modern day Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee, the Natchez Trace passed through both the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indian Nations. Both tribes were considered one of the five “civilized tribes,” meaning that many members had adopted the European way in terms of farming, housing, clothing, government, and business. As you drive along the Parkway you will pass many sites of former Indian towns, businesses, territorial boundaries, and European missions.

The following is a list of all Indian history stops on the Natchez Trace Parkway. An * indicates a stop that features an actual attraction to see and explore, whereas all others have only information panels, most of which you can read from your car. Mile marker numbers are given in parenthesis. Mileage is counted from south to north, so the lower the number, the farther south the stop is located.
