The West Florida Boundary stop on the Natchez Trace Parkway marks the northern border of what was known as West Florida back in 1763. Here you will find an information panel, a couple of picnic tables, and the southern terminus for the Yockanookany segment of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail.
The road to the West Florida Boundary parking area ends in a loop with a giant field at its center. There are only two picnic tables on this field, and its a shame that more could not be added because this field would be a wonderful spot for reunions, holiday celebrations, and other traditional picnic activities.
The Yockanookany segment of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is the longest segment, running 23 miles from the West Florida Boundary to the Yockanookany stop on the Natchez Trace Parkway near Mile Post 131. The trailhead is hard to find, so the National Park Service has installed signage near the parking lot that points the way. A Proceed At Your Own Risk sign warns hikers that the trail is in bad shape, but from some reviews I read in late 2021, it’s actually quite decent from here to the Highway 43 / Yandell Road parking lot 7.7 miles away. North of 43 is where the trouble begins.
