Battery Williams is an Endicott-era coastal battery that was part of Fort Standish on Lovells Island, now part of Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. It was built between 1901 and 1904 and armed with three 3-inch rapid fire guns. The lower level of the battery was not only used as an ammunition magazine but also as day rooms for officers and enlisted men. The battery saw service in both World War I and II. It was deactivated in 1946.
Battery Williams is located at the south end of Lovells Island and is just a short walk from the ferry dock. The battery is in fine shape, and visitors are welcome to walk around on the gun platforms and even enter the lower level rooms. Next door is Battery Whipple, which is also open for exploration.
