Back in 2015, the Porter Mountain View overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway was completely overgrown, but a few years later the National Park Service came in and cleared over an acre of trees and restored the view. I have no idea which of the mountains is Porter Mountain, but today there is a clear view of a ridge of mountains running perpendicular to the overlook and an open valley at their base. The overlook faces southwest, and unfortunately I arrived late in the afternoon when the sun was shinning in my face (particularly at the right side of the overlook), so my photos are somewhat washed out. If you arrive earlier in the day, you should have an impressive scene to look at.
