Picnic Tables: None
The Lakeview Overlook isn’t an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway that is well advertised. It is reached via a turnoff from the Parkway at Mile Post 297 just south of Julian Price Campground, and most people making the turn are doing so to reach Price Lake Boat Rentals. Finding a nice view of Price Lake is sort of a bonus. However, if you want the best view of the lake, stop at the Price Lake Overlook one stop north of the campground.
At Price Lake Boat Rentals you can rent canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards for a cruise on Price Lake. The facility is open from late May through the end of October, but opening days and hours vary per season. For those camping, you can purchase firewood here as well. See the Price Lake Boat Rentals website for the current schedule and prices.
There is also a canoe launch next to the rental facility. This is free for anyone to use. No motorboats are allowed on the lake.
For those looking to hike, you can begin the easy Price Lake Trail and take a 2.3-mile hike around the lake. The Lakeview Overlook is also the location of the northern trailhead for the Tanawha Trail, a 13.5-mile trail that runs south to the Beacon Heights Parking Area. The Tanawha Trail is also part of the Mountains to Sea Trail, a collection of shorter trails that when strung together makes a 1,150-mile path across the state of North Carolina, connecting Great Smokey Mountains National Park with the Outer Banks on the Atlantic Ocean. Plenty of parking is available.
