What you see in the photo above is all there is to see at the Black Rock Hill View overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Supposedly once the leaves fall off the trees in the winter you can see that the rock is indeed black. It is made of diorite, a rock that ranges from granite coloring to black. If you’ve ever seen ancient sculptures carved from a black rock, that’s most likely diorite.
