Sections of many historic trails, be it the Natchez Trace or the Sante Fe Trail, eventually became modern-day paved roads. After all, why reinvent the wheel? Such is the case with the Old Trace Drive, a 1.5-mile paved section of the original Trace (the drive is actually a little longer, but only part of it is on the actual Trace). The road is one-way and starts near Mile Post 376 on the Natchez Trace Parkway. RVs are not allowed.

Information on the Old Trace Drive

The Old Trace Drive is a mild diversion from driving on the Natchez Trace Parkway, and being paved, if you didn’t know you were on the Old Trace, you would just assume you were driving on a rural road through the woods. An information shelter at the start of the road tells about the Trace Drive and the Natchez Trace in general. There are also three overlooks along the way, but all of the views have long ago been obscured by trees and other vegetation.
