Parking for the southern trailhead of the 20-mile long Highland Rim segment of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is located on Highway 50 just off the Natchez Trace Parkway near Milepost 408. At the intersection with Highway 50, take a right. The parking lot, which is on Totty Lane, is the first right you come to. The trailhead is on the far side of the grass parking area.

Horses are allowed on the Highland Rim segment of the trail, and the large Totty Lane parking area can accommodate an army of horse trailers. Water is available for the horses.

Also located at the far end of the parking lot is a bicyclist-only campground for those making overnight bike trips along the Natchez Trace Parkway. Two picnic tables, a fire pit / grill, and trash cans are available at the campsite, and water is available at the Gordon House, a little over a quarter mile farther south on the Parkway. There are no set campsites, so just pitch your tent in the general area. I must mention that in October I was swarmed by mosquitoes. When I got into my car I could see them banging into the window trying to get at me. I don’t know how it is the rest of the year, but I can’t imagine things being any better. Just be prepared for what you might be up against.
