The Village of Saunook View is one of a relentless grouping of overlooks within a 20-mile stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway between NC Highway 23 and Highway 19. In fact, on the last 40 miles of the Parkway there are more than 40 overlooks. This area is a snow skiing region—or what the South considers to be a snow skiing region—which may explain the overabundance of scenic views.

Here at the Village of Saunook View parking area there is nothing to see but the tops of some mountains. Saunook lies 1,700 feet below and cannot be seen due to brush and trees that now block the view. However, if you must see Saunook, you can take a short walk north on the Parkway to where you can get a glimpse of the village, though even at its best it has no scenic beauty. This is not a pastoral setting full of farms and rolling hills, just a small town with warehouses, strip malls, and a highway running through it.
