On my first trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway in November 2014, the view at Poor Mountain was nearly overgrown. Funds were raised to remove brush and trees that blocked the views at a few overlooks in the Roanoke area, and it appears this stop may have benefited. You can now see some mountains, though I am not sure which is Poor Mountain. The mountain was named after an officer with the last name of Poore who fought in the French and Indian War.
