The Mount Jefferson View stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway has to be a hundred feet above the valley floor below, yet the trees have grown so tall that they actually block the lower portion of the vista. You can still see Mount Jefferson, so you get what is advertised, but that’s about it.
Mount Jefferson was once called Negro Mountain, for it was one of the places where runaway slaves hid on their way north. It is now part of Mount Jefferson State Park, a day use park with hiking trails and picnic facilities.
