The Licklog Ridge Overlook (formerly Licklog Gap Overlook) on the Blue Ridge Parkway offers an excellent view of the surrounding mountains, though three trees interrupt what could have been a nearly continuous 180° panorama. However, I can’t complain because the last time I was here trees, brush, and weeds pretty much obliterated the scenery. As with the Grassy Mine Ridge Overlook one stop to the south and the Doubletop Mountain View one stop to the north, the National Park Service has cleared the offending vegetation and restored the vista.

The parking lot is huge—you could fit twenty buses—but I doubt it’s the view that draws the crowds. It must be the lone picnic table and the connector trail to the Mountains To Sea Trail that is located behind it. Either that or the National Park Service had a surplus of asphalt at the time the overlook was created.
