When I visited the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2016, the view at Doubletop Mountain Overlook had been completely obscured by trees and other brush. You couldn’t see a thing. However, since then the view is now superb. There is a field below the overlook that is full of felled trees, so it appears that the National Park Service did some extensive logging to restore the vista. The viewing angle is only about 45°, but the view is quite interesting because there are mountains close enough to the overlook so that they aren’t swallowed by smog (a big problem), as well as mountains far away that fade to grey and disappear into the horizon.
