The view of Herrin Knob, like Courthouse Valley Overlook one stop to the north on the Blue Ridge Parkway, has the potential to provide an excellent view of the valley and mountains, but groups of tall-but-skinny pine trees—so skinny that a person could put their hands around most of them—ruin what could easily be a wonderful 180° experience. Travelers should be in awe of the views into the valley and of the mountains running perpendicular and horizontal to the overlook, all aspects that give the vista depth. Instead, attention is placed on the distractions, all of which could be cut down with a handsaw.
You also get a nice view of the Blue Ridge Parkway itself from Herrin Knob View.
