Trails: One unidentified trail
Picnic Tables: None
If traveling south on the Blue Ridge Parkway, there is an enormous, unidentified circular parking area just before you come to the Pisgah Inn. While doing research I found that some Blue Ridge Parkway websites do not list this pullout, others call it the “Unknown Parking Area,” and one called it the Flat Laurel Gap Overlook. Since that’s the only name I came across, that’s what I’ll go with.
There is a view of Mount Pisgah, easily identifiable by an antenna on its summit. However, I get the feeling that this parking area serves another purpose, but for what I do not know. The view is marginal at best, there are no picnic tables, and the one trail has no identification sign. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it is an overflow parking lot for the Inn, but it’s a fairly long walk between the two.
