I happened across the Chimney Rock Mountain Overlook on a day that yielded a spectacular view of the entire valley below blanketed with fog. It was like being at the top of an ocean of cloud. The view is actually split in two by a large grove of trees that have overgrown the area, but the only section worth photographing is that on the south end of the parking lot. As you drive north you’ll actually get better views of the mountains from the road than from the overlook.
