A .25-mile paved path (.5-mile round trip) leads to the Freedom Hills Overlook, the highest point in Alabama along the Natchez Trace Parkway. Of course, this isn’t saying much since the Parkway only passes through Alabama for a few miles. The path, which is actually quite steep, climbs about 30 feet to 800 feet above sea level, but the view is nothing out of the ordinary unless the leaves are changing color in the fall. At any other time of year I suggest saving your energy for driving down the Parkway and skipping this stop.
