The River Bend stop on the Natchez Trace Parkway is home to a wonderful picnic area situated on a bend in the Pearl River. In fact, it is probably the best picnic area on the Parkway. It is open year-round, and all tables are taken on a first come, first served basis.
The road into the River Bend Picnic Area splits not long after exiting from the Natchez Trace Parkway. Take a right to get to the main section of the picnic area where you will find tables along the river and near the forest. On the river side of the road are a dozen tables, seven grills, one covered pavilion, and a modern restroom.
On the other side of the road near the forest are three individual picnic spots with a table and a grill.
If you take a left when the road splits, you will find only a couple of tables and one grill. Both are situated right along the river.
Fishing is allowed on all lakes and rivers along the Natchez Trace Parkway. No fishing permit is required from the National Park Service, but state regulations apply. The River Bend Picnic Area stop is in Mississippi, so visit the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks web page for more information.
