The Holly Picnic Area is one of the larger picnic areas on the Natchez Trace Parkway with nine tables and one grill. It is situated along Cypress Creek in a wooded area, but the canopy is high up so you get shade without being hemmed in between trees. While the picnic area is level, the parking lot is actually high above it on a hill. There is a wheelchair access ramp on the right side of the parking lot that leads to the bottom, and this is the easiest way for anyone to get to the tables. However, despite the ramp, those in wheelchairs will have a tough time because there are no paved paths to the tables themselves, so the wheelchairs will somehow have to be rolled across the field.
On the right side of the parking lot is a set of stairs that leads to a trail that runs along Cypress Creek and ends at the Holly Picnic Area. This is definitely the long way to get there, and I suppose most anyone who takes this route simply doesn’t know any better.
