Per the signage directly on the Natchez Trace Parkway, Old Town Overlook is the new name for what was formerly called Old Town Creek. I have no idea why the name was changed because there is no overlook of anything, though you do get a nice view of the Parkway itself. The Old Town Creek information panel is still here, and you can also pick up the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail and hike north or south on the Blackland Prairie segment.
Off to the right of the main sign is an interesting monument placed in 1914 by the Daughters of the American Revolution. According to the inscription, “Over this first high-road came a tide of the best population of the older southern states seeking homes in the southwest.” No riff-raft came this way. Only the best people.
