Old Spring Picnic Area

The Old Spring Picnic Area is located at the end of Monument Road. This is the closest of the two picnic areas to the entrance of the Meriwether Lewis Site. The road ends in a loop, and four tables, each with its own grill, are situated within the loop area. Outside the loop are another four tables and three grills. One table is designated as a handicap site. The area is wooded and very easy to get to—a fifty foot walk from your car at the most. There is no official parking lot, so just park on the shoulder of the road.

Little Swan Creek Picnic Area

The Little Swan Creek Picnic Area is located at the very end of Campground Road, the main road through the Meriwether Lewis Site. Little Swan Creek runs through the area. The facility includes a restroom and water fountain.

Two tables are located within the field encircled by the loop road, while the rest are spread out over a large area and are located along the bank of Little Swan Creek. Accessing the tables requires walking down a hill from the parking area, and while not very steep, it does take some effort. That’s the price you pay to have a nice view while picnicking.

The main picnic area contains six tables, each with its own grill. At the far end of the parking area and opposite the restroom is a trail, and if you walk along it for a short distance you will find an additional three tables and two grills.
