Visitors can tour the Horseshoe Bend Battlefield along a 3-mile park road that leads to five important stops plus a battlefield overlook pavilion. The tour can be done in a vehicle, on a bike, or on foot—in a vehicle it can be completed in no more than an hour. The tour road is the only way to see all of the tour stops. The Nature Trail, the park’s only hiking trail, also covers the grounds but only goes past Stops #2 and #4.

The gates to the park open at 8 AM and close at 5 PM. The tour road is within the gated area, so be sure to complete your tour and exit the park by closing time. The park is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

National Park Planner has created a virtual tour of the Horseshoe Bend battlefield, complete with plenty of photos of what you will see at each tour stop. Feel free to use this as a source of information as you drive around the battlefield. At the bottom of each web page is a navigation menu that allows you to jump to the next or previous stop.

Before beginning the battlefield tour, be sure to stop at the Horseshoe Bend Battlefield Overlook. You will pass it when traveling from the Visitor Center to the first stop on the tour.

Tour Stop 1:  The Island

Tour Stop 2: The Barricade

Tour Stop 3:  Cherokee Crossing
