From Stop 1 on the Horseshoe Bend National Battlefield Tour, you can see the island that American forces occupied under the command of Lieutenant Jesse Bean in order to keep the Red Sticks from retreating across the Tallapoosa River. When many Indians did attempt this path of escape, they were shot dead by Bean and his forty men. Now called Bean’s Island, it is located on the west side of the bend near the start of the Red Stick barricade.
