TOHOPEKA VILLAGE

Allow 10 minutes for a visit

An overlook of the Red Stick’s Tohopeka village site is accessed by taking a 2-minute walk along a paved path from the Stop 4 parking lot on the Horseshoe Bend National Battlefield tour. This is also the location of the Red Sticks’ second line of defense. Located on a hill, Andrew Jackson’s men would have had to storm up from the bottom to overtake the Red Sticks at this position. However, when General Coffee’s men overran Tohopeka from the rear, the warriors on the hill were trapped between the two rapidly approaching forces.
