The road to the Long Pine Key Campground forks at a small lake, with a left leading to the campground and a right to a picnic area. Along the picnic area road are two groups of picnic tables, each with its own parking lot (there are four parking lots, but only two have tables). There are two or three tables in each group but no grills. All tables are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. There are also two restrooms along the road.

The picnic area road eventually ends in a loop, so it is easy for large RVs to turn around and head back to the main road. At this loop is a group of six picnic tables and one ground-level grill / fire pit. These tables are right on the lake, so this is definitely the place to be. Parking is along the side of the road.

At the fourth parking lot along the road (next to one of the restrooms) is a trail that leads to the lake, and on the path are two tables and one ground-level grill / fire pit.

Activities for picnickers include walking a trail around the lake and fishing, though eating the fish is not advised due to the presence of mercury. No swimming is allowed because alligators live in the lake.
