See the Picnic Areas web page for an interactive location map.
There is a sizable picnic area at Gulf Islands National Seashore’s Naval Live Oaks Area on Gulf Breeze Parkway. Tables are located various distances from the parking lot, with the farthest being a couple hundred yards away. Many tables have great views of the Santa Rosa Sound.
The picnic area consists of a network of tables that are connected together by a sidewalk. Tables directly on the sidewalk are accessible to those in wheelchairs, while others are just a short walk away through the grass. All tables are on cement pads. There are roughly twenty picnic tables and thirteen grills. Not every table has a grill, but there is at least one per grouping of tables. The tables are chained to their respective cement pads and cannot be rearranged.
There is also a covered pavilion with a dozen tables and a large grill that is available of a first come, first served basis. If a family reunion or corporate outing is what you have in mind, there is another covered picnic pavilion at the Naval Live Oaks Group Campground that can be reserved for a fee. If interested, visit the National Park Service’s official Permits web page for Gulf Islands National Seashore.
All tables, other than those in the pavilion, are out in the open and do not have shade.
