Pamlico Sound Beach Access Points
The Haulover Day Use Area on the Pamlico Sound at Cape Hatteras National Seashore appears to be more of a windsurfing area than a swimming area. There were some kiteboarders here as well, but most of them were a little farther south at Kite Point. I guess the extreme sports cliques have gravitated over the years to their own spots on the Sound. There were also a number of fishermen, but no beachgoers when I visited.
Along with a decent size parking lot, there is a bathhouse area with restrooms, showers, and changing areas.
While on the Pamlico Sound, visitors to the Haulover Day Use Area can easily walk across the road to the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. There are two well-worn paths over the dunes. The walk from the parking lot is 150 yards.
