Cape Hatteras National Seashore | PAMLICO SOUND BEACH ACCESS

PAMLICO SOUND BEACH ACCESS AT CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE

For those looking to park their car and walk to a beach along the Pamlico Sound, options are very few compared to pedestrian access areas to the Atlantic Ocean beaches. Nearly all access to the Pamlico Sound within Cape Hatteras National Seashore is via off road driving, and while there are plenty of access roads to the Sound, most do not have parking areas like the off-road ramps on the ocean side. Of course, you can always park on the shoulder of the road and walk to the Sound, but the area between the paved road and the water is often thick with brush and the water is usually a good distance away. Furthermore, only Hatteras Island has easy pedestrian access to the Sound.

The following areas provide parking and easy access to the Pamlico Sound on Hatteras Island:

Salvo Day Use Area

Haulover Day Use Area

Kite Point

Sand Bay Day Use Area
