There is a wonderful view into the valleys between the mountains at the Thunder Struck Ridge overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, though I have no idea which is Thunder Struck Ridge. Valleys give the scene depth, whereas looking directly at mountains that run perpendicular to the overlook is boring and two dimensional. The morning is a good time to visit, for the sun will be over your shoulder and lighting the scenery nicely.
