Trails: Boston Knob Trail
Picnic Tables: 1 (no grill)
Most of the vista at the Boston Knob Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway is obscured by a giant tree. If somebody would cut down that tree, there’d be a nice view, but as is, the only glimpse of the mountains is from near the lone picnic table at the site. This is really not an overlook to stop at for the scenery.
On the right side of the parking lot is what appears to be a dirt road. I have no idea what this is, but the Blue Ridge Parkway Outdoor Guide (pick one up at any visitor center) lists a Boston Knob Trail at this stop. I don’t know if this is the trail or if it is actually a road. However, I did not see anything else that looked like a trailhead. I can’t even imagine where the trail would lead to. If you decide to check it out, keep in mind that it is only supposed to be .1 mile long.
Also, the Boston Knob Overlook does not have a pull-through parking lot, so you must park in a parking space and then back out to leave. Thus, those in large RVs or pulling trailers should avoid this stop. In fact, unless you need a picnic table, that advice applies to everybody.
