The Floyd Family Cemetery is a five-minute walk from the Old Mastic House, the main house of the William Floyd Estate at Fire Island National Seashore. It is the final resting place for at least eight generations of Floyds, with the oldest grave in the cemetery being that of William Floyd’s father, Nicoll Floyd, who died in 1755. The newest graves are from the 2010s, so while the property was turned over to the National Park Service in 1976, the Floyd’s retained the right to use the cemetery for family burials. About the only one missing is William Floyd himself. Though he was born and raised on the estate, and later even owned it, by the time of his death in 1821 he had moved to Westernville in upstate New York and had been living there for nearly twenty years. He is buried in the Westernville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
