The Watch Hill Ferry is operated by the Davis Park Ferry Company and departs from the Patchogue Ferry Terminal at 160 West Avenue, Patchogue on Long Island. The ride to Watch Hill takes about 30 minutes. The same company runs another ferry directly to Davis Park, the private community next to Watch Hill, but that ferry terminal is a half mile away at 80 Brightwood Street. Should you decide to walk to Davis Park from Watch Hill, you can return to Long Island on the Davis Park Ferry, but you’ll end up at the wrong parking lot and still have an extra walk back to your car.
Ferry tickets are only sold in person at the Patchogue Ferry Terminal. Cash is definitely the preferred type of payment. In fact, on certain days cash is the only type of payment accepted. Keep in mind that there is no ATM available (there is one at the Davis Park terminal). Credit cards are accepted ($10 minimum charge) once the terminal building opens at 10 AM, but this is after the first ferry departs. There is a ticket booth outside the terminal for CASH ONLY sales.
Each passenger is allowed one carry-on item and one small personal item, such as a beach chair and bag. There is an additional charge for large or wheeled coolers, boxes, bags, surfboards, kayaks, and carts that is paid in cash only. No bikes are allowed. Dogs also need a ticket.
Service to Watch Hill is seasonal, usually running from mid-May to mid-October. The Davis Park Ferry, on the other hand, runs year-round due to it being a residential community. It is about a mile walk between the two locations. See the Davis Park Ferry Company website for the current schedule and fees.
Free parking is available at the Patchogue terminal. If you take the Davis Park Ferry, there is a parking fee.
