GENERAL INFORMATION

Unlike a traditional national park visitor center with a museum and a theater for viewing the park’s orientation film, the Shark Valley Visitor Center serves mainly as an information hub. It also shares the building with Shark Valley Tram Tours, the Everglades National Park concessionaire that runs the tram tours and rents bicycles.

OPERATING HOURS

The Shark Valley Visitor Center is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. Times can always change, so be sure to visit Everglades National Park’s official Shark Valley Visitor Center web page for the latest schedule.

EXHIBITS

Shark Valley gets its name from the Shark River Slough. This is essentially a prairie, but one with a very slow moving and shallow sheet of water on it, in most places less than two feet deep. The water comes mainly from Lake Okeechobee, but rain also adds to the volume.

Fittingly, the exhibits in the Shark Valley Visitor Center cover the topic of where the water comes from at Shark Valley. It only takes a few minutes to read through the information.

SCHEDULING YOUR TIME

Other than asking questions and booking tours at the Shark Valley Visitor Center, the only additional time you can spend is about ten minutes in the exhibit area.
