GENERAL INFORMATION

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the rage in women’s fashion was feathers for hats. Hunting birds in the Everglades was big business, and entire flocks could be killed off in a day. Guy Bradley, for whom the visitor center is named, was a former plume hunter who became a game warden once legislation was passed to protect the birds in 1902. He was murdered by poachers in 1905.

One exhibit that everyone should check out before heading outside is the Mosquito Meter. It is located across from the information desk along with a large interactive video screen that plays short films about various topics. Choose one from the menu and enjoy.

SCHEDULING YOUR TIME

Getting information about Everglades National Park is the main draw to the Guy Bradley Visitor Center, and there is often a lot of people waiting at the information desk. If you want to read through all the exhibits, set aside 20 minutes for the task. You could also spend a good amount of time watching the various videos on the screen near the Mosquito Meter. It is worth taking some time to look around, so allow a half hour to explore and to talk with the Rangers about what there is to do in the Flamingo area of the park.
