THE BRITISH SOLDIER

Stop 7 on the Guilford Courthouse Battlefield Tour is marked by a wayside exhibit that details the British soldiers’ part in the battle. It is also the location of the American Third Line Monument (aka Regulars Monument), which is dedicated to the Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware Continentals.

A short walk down a trail towards the historic New Garden Road leads to a monument dedicated to British officer James Stewart, who was killed during the attack on the American third line. The monument, the only one honoring a British soldier at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, marks the spot where his sword was found.
