See the Eastern Front Trails web page for a complete trail map.
Length: .25 mile
Type: Hikers, Bikers, and Horseback Riders
Difficulty: Moderate
The Willcox Trail runs between the Taylor’s Creek Trail (Intersection EE) and the Encampment Trail (Intersection BB). Like nearly all trails in the Eastern Front Unit of Petersburg National Battlefield that allow horseback riding, the Willcox Trail is a wide gravel path with a very smooth surface that is largely free of rocks and tree roots. It crosses a creek located in a shallow ravine—I believe Taylor’s Creek. If starting from the Taylor’s Creek Trail intersection, the hike down into the ravine is moderately steep but quite short, while the hike back up the hill is long and gradual and won’t raise your heart rate until just before the Encampment Trail where it gets a little steeper.
The Willcox Trail dead ends into the Encampment Trail. A left sends you hiking north, and a right sends you south.
