Old Carriage Road

Old Carriage Road

The Difficult Run Trail is no longer open to horseback riding. A section has washed out and is now less than six inches wide in some places. There is a steep drop off down to the stream itself.

Horseback riding at Great Falls Park is allowed on the Old Carriage Road, Matildaville Trail, Mine Run Trail, and the Ridge Trail. All are connected together, allowing you to have one continuous ride of around eight miles. You must bring your own horses, as horse rental is not provided by the park. Owners are asked to use the upper parking lot for their trailers. Cleaning trailers in Great Falls Park is not permitted.
