FORT MONROE WAKLKING TOUR

STOP 10: OLD POINT COMFORT LIGHTHOUSE

The Old Point Comfort Lighthouse was built in 1802 and continues to work today. It is the oldest structure at Fort Monroe, predating the fort by twenty years. It is also the oldest operating lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay area. The light keeper’s quarters is the brown house to the right. It is now a private residence.

The above photo is of the backside of the lighthouse, taken from the terreplein of Fort Monroe at Stop 3, the Flag Staff Bastion. The photo below is of the front side, taken from the street.

Continue down the street to reach the next stop on the walking tour.
