The eastern side of the Fort Monroe Peninsula is lined with Chesapeake Bay beaches. Just outside the fort, but not within the Fort Monroe National Monument boundary, is the only public beach with lifeguard service, Outlook Beach. Operated by the city of Hampton, lifeguards are on duty daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day between the hours of 10 AM and 6 PM. No dogs are allowed on the beach between May 15th and September 15th.
Actually within the boundary of Fort Monroe National Monument at the North Beach area is the Paradise Ocean Club. This is a public fee-based facility with a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, cabana and pavilion rentals, live entertainment, and a swimming beach. Locals can purchase a yearly membership, while those visiting for the day can buy a day pass. Visit the Paradise Ocean Club website for more details.
