The Meeks General Store at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is located across the street from the Appomattox County Courthouse building. It was built in 1852 by John H. Plunkett and purchased by Francis Meeks in the early 1860s. Meeks was the owner at the time of Lee’s surrender on April 9, 1865, and thus the building now takes his name. Meeks also ran a post office and drug store from the building. It was later used as a residence by a local Presbyterian preacher.

Behind the store is a storage shed also built by Plunkett and eventually owned by Meeks. It now houses items typical of a storage shed of the time.
